Social Media is cancelled!1!111!!!
I was watching some videos with a couple of friends the other day on a site called, "Watch2Gether," when I encountered an ad about problems with social media. This ad intrigued me because at that point I was trying to look for a topic to write about for this blog. As I read more about the problems with social media, I began to think that all of these issues would not be a thing if social media wasn't invented or if there was a ban.
These days, our world revolves heavily on social media. The popularity of someone today is usually dependent on how many likes, views, subscribers, followers, or comments that person has. This may have been a massive game changer on how we communicate with each other these days, but with all of this, a lot of issues also came with this.
The website, https://www.theodysseyonline.com/five-problems-with-social-media, talks about five problems that occur within today's use of social media. These five problems are, the competition to get the most likes and comments, the use of fake identities online, the elimination of face to face interaction, the promotion of procrastination, and finally, the lack of privacy.
I believe the website addressed all of these problems well, it went in depth on all of the issues, talking about how these are considered as problems, and what we can do to counter act this.
A ban on social media would not be too bad, but it would cause outrage among the population of the Earth. There would be riots and from those r
iots, there would be tons of death, which is not good. I think instead of a ban, we should remove the like and comment system, so there is no more competition. This is something that Instragram, a popular social media app, has already done. It has disabled people from viewing how many likes a photo gets, but it still shows how many comments it's received.
In conclusion, social media causes many different types of issues, such as, competition to get the most likes and comments, the use of fake identities online, the elimination of face to face interaction, the promotion of procrastination, and finally, the lack of privacy. These problems often lead to many issues that occur later on in life.
